- I've made a few changes to the Amiga Zone home page on the Web
- (The Amiga Zone is a "SIG" on the Portal Online System, one of
- the services of the Portal Information Network, a San Jose, CA-based
- commercial online service and Internet provider).
-
- I've added a form for anyone to use the incredible Digital
- AltaVista Web/Usenet search engine, right from the Zone page.
-
- For anyone that hasn't tried AltaVista yet, I urge you to do so.
- It went online in December, and it's simply the fastest, most
- wide-ranging, easiest to use Web & Usenet search engine you've
- ever seen.
-
- AltaVista is currently indexing nearly 18,000 Usenet newsgroups
- and over 21 million Web pages, and yet I have yet to see a search
- of either that takes less than a few seconds to respond with a
- list of choices.
-
- Further, AltaVista has some rather amazing "Advanced Query" options,
- such as letting you search the entire Web for all other pages
- that have links to YOUR page!
-
- At any rate, Digital has kindly provided the HTML source to
- the search form on their own AltaVista page (www.altavista.digital.com)
- and in fact, comment the code with "Steal it and put it on your
- own page!" which is exactly what I did. :)
-
- Lastly, I'll soon be starting an Amiga Zone Trivia Contest
- on the Amiga Zone home page. I'm collecting donated prizes and
- formulating the questions for the contest so it should appear there
- r.s.n. If you are a commercial vendor and wish to contribute, please
- email me. You shall receive copious publicity and credit.
- See signature below for the URL.
-
- Have fun :)
